Friends of the Kumeyaay Membership Program

Our Mission Statement

To assist the City of Poway with providing educational opportunities for promoting an awareness and appreciation of the Kumeyaay culture through the preservation, exhibition, and interpretation of native artifacts, traditions and natural resources for the Poway community and future generations.

Update July, 2017: It is that time of year again to send in your membership renewals to the Friends of the Kumeyaay. If you are not a current member, now is the time to sign up!

As a private, non-profit 501(c) 3 organization, membership dues are an important part of our funding support each year. Only with the help of active and non-active members and donors can the important mission of the Center be accomplished. Please make a contribution.

The funding we receive from the membership program is an important part of the KIIC’s financial program which helps in providing: literature and materials for our 3rd grade program and public tours; facility operation and maintenance expenses.

The dues also assist in funding various site improvements. Over the years volunteers have added a number a different displays to the classroom, constructed a green house, supplied the nursery with starter materials, assisted with funding for various scout projects which included constructing  'ewaas, added a library to the Center, constructed new ramada, we expanded and improved the site’s irrigation systems, and the list continues.

This next fiscal year our goals are to continue rethatching the ramadas, replacing the existing signs, designing and installing a self-guided interpretive trail, reconstructing the steep trail section behind the new ramada, and continue designing and constructing professional displays that will someday be transferred to a permanent building
